Die Mond ("the mouth" in Afrikaans) is the Heuningnes River mouth, in the De Mond Nature Reserve. It's a protected wetland of international importance (Ramsar site), home to many bird species. The spot is wild and isolated, with excellent wind conditions but access regulated by the nature reserve.
Works in SE, E and SSE from October to March. The river mouth creates powerful currents at rising and falling tide. Avoid the channel. Ocean swell on the beach.
Ocean waves and river mouth current. Sandy bottom. Water at 15-19°C, 3/2 to 4/3 wetsuit. Very strong current in the channel.

Access via De Mond Nature Reserve (permit required). Parking on dirt in the reserve. Opening hours must be respected.
Very dangerous river mouth current — never ride in the channel. Sharks (attracted to river mouth). Isolation. Nature reserve — respect fauna and flora. Protected birds.
SE and E side-onshore to onshore, 15-30 knots from October to March. Very wind-exposed area. SSE also works. Often powerful conditions.
