Albatross is a beach break located north of The Point in Jeffreys Bay. It is one of the most popular kite spots in J-Bay as it offers a sandy bottom (no reef) and good space for riding. Waves are regular but less powerful than on the point breaks. This is the preferred spot for J-Bay kiters who want to avoid tensions with surfers on the reefs. Good local kite community.
The spot works with SE to WSW wind in side-onshore to onshore. Sandy bottom throughout — no reef risk. Beach break waves suited for intermediate wave riding. Rideable at all tides. Wide beach at low tide. This is the most-used kite spot at J-Bay, fewer conflicts with surfers than further south. Best from October to March.
Beach break waves of 0.5-2 metres. Sandy bottom. Moderate chop in sustained SE. Waves less regular than point breaks but safer. Water temperature between 18-22°C. 3/2 wetsuit in summer, 4/3 in winter.

Open all year round
Parking along the coastal road north of J-Bay. Easy beach access. Quiet residential area. Facilities in J-Bay centre minutes away. This is the meeting point for local kiters.
Sharks — J-Bay is known for great white presence. Respect shark alerts. Shore break during large swells. Lateral currents possible. Do not drift south towards reef zones. Wind can be very strong in the late afternoon.
Southeast wind blows side-onshore. This is the main kite spot at J-Bay thanks to the ideal orientation for SE. Strength of 15-25 knots in summer (October-March). The SE thermal is very reliable and picks up regularly in the afternoon. WSW also works well thanks to the beach exposure.
