Durban Kitebeach is Durban's main kite spot, the officially designated kitesurfing beach on the Golden Mile. It's the gathering point for Durban's kite community with schools and rental shops on site. Warm tropical waters year-round (22-26°C). Shark nets and lifeguards. Accessible spot with good infrastructure, ideal for intermediate riders.
The spot works in NE to SE winds. Kite zone marked and separated from swimming areas. Tide influences beach width and launch zone. Best at mid-tide. At low tide, large launch zone. Wind reports available from local schools.
Warm tropical water (22-26°C), boardshorts sufficient year-round. Sandy bottom. Regular waves of 0.5 to 1.5 m, ideal for wave riding. Shark nets installed. Moderate coastal currents. Well-defined sailing area.

The dominant wind is the north-east (NE), KwaZulu-Natal's summer trade wind, blowing side-onshore on this east-facing coast. This thermal wind picks up late morning and reaches 15-25 knots in the afternoon. East to south-east winds are also favourable. Rideable year-round, best from October to April.
