High tide recommended for the estuary (more water). The mouth state varies — sometimes closed by sand. Good versatile spot.
Flat water in the estuary, waves of 0.5-2 metres at the mouth on the ocean side. Sandy bottom. Variable currents at the mouth depending on tide. Warmer water in the estuary (19-24°C), 18-22°C on the ocean side. 3/2 wetsuit in summer.

Parking in St Francis Bay town, near the mouth. Easy access from the N2 via the St Francis road. Free parking along the canals. All St Francis Bay shops and restaurants nearby. Good tourist infrastructure.
Currents at the mouth, especially on outgoing tide. Sharks present (mouths attract sharks). Boat traffic in the estuary — stay alert. Do not approach the main channel on outgoing tide. Shore break on the ocean beach.
Southeast wind blows side-onshore. The Kromme River channels SE towards the estuary. Strength of 15-25 knots in summer. WSW works as onshore on the beach at the mouth exit. The estuary offers some protection against gusts.
