Gouritzmond is a spot located at the mouth of the Gouritz River on the southern coast of the Garden Route. This small fishing village offers a wild and unspoiled setting, with both an exposed ocean beach and a more sheltered estuary area. The river mouth can provide flat water conditions when sufficiently filled, while the ocean beach offers waves and chop. The main wind season runs from October to March with the southeast wind.
The spot works mainly with southeast wind in side-onshore. The estuary area offers flat water for beginners at high tide when the river is full. The ocean beach is more exposed with waves. The spot is rideable at all tides but conditions change significantly. Best from November to February when the southeast is most consistent.
Variable water conditions depending on the area. The estuary offers flat water at high tide, with a sandy bottom. The ocean beach has 1-2 metre waves and chop in strong wind. Currents present at the river mouth, especially on the outgoing tide. Water temperature between 17-21°C, 3/2 wetsuit recommended in summer, 4/3 in winter.

Parking available in the village of Gouritzmond, near the river mouth. Small unpaved parking area near the beach. Access via the N2 then secondary road to Gouritzmond. Very quiet village, no parking issues outside school holidays.
Strong currents at the river mouth, especially on outgoing tide. Powerful shore break on the ocean beach. No lifeguard service. Isolated spot with distant medical services. Sharks present in the area (river and ocean). Avoid riding alone. Watch for rocks on the sides of the river mouth.
The dominant wind is the southeast (Cape Doctor), blowing side-onshore on this south-facing coast. It typically strengthens in the afternoon to 15-25 knots between October and March. Southwest wind often brings weather fronts with more unstable conditions. The Gouritz River valley can channel and accelerate the wind through a Venturi effect.
