Nahoon Reef is a famous reef break south of Nahoon Beach in East London. This world-class spot offers powerful, hollow waves over a rocky bottom. Reserved exclusively for expert riders due to the reef, currents and wave power. Kitesurfing is tolerated but surfers have priority. Warm subtropical waters (20-24°C).
The spot works with south to south-east swell combined with SW wind. The reef creates powerful, hollow waves at mid-tide. At low tide, the reef is too exposed and dangerous. At high tide, waves lose power. Best at mid rising tide with 1 to 2 m swell.

Access from East London, parking at Nahoon Beach then walk south to reach the reef. Tarred road to the main parking area.
Shallow, sharp reef. Powerful waves that can slam you onto the reef. Strong currents. Absolute priority to surfers. Sharks present (shark nets at Nahoon Beach). Sea urchins on the reef. Spot reserved for experts only. Buddy system mandatory.
SW wind is the most favourable, blowing side-onshore and grooming the waves. S wind also works. Optimal conditions are with moderate SW wind and a well-formed south swell. Avoid strong wind days which make conditions dangerous on the reef.
