Bushmans River Mouth is a kitesurfing spot located at Kenton-on-Sea on the Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape. The estuary offers sheltered flat water conditions, while the ocean-side beach provides access to wave conditions. This spot is ideal for progression thanks to the option of sailing in flat water in the estuary or in ocean conditions depending on skill level.
Versatile spot with an estuary offering flat water and an ocean beach for waves. The estuary works at high tide when water level is sufficient. The beach works with SW to W winds. Easy launching from both sides.
Open all year round
Intermediate
In the estuary: brackish, flat and shallow water. Ocean side: sea water 18-22°C in summer, waves possible. Wetsuit recommended. Sandy bottom on both sides.
Parking in the village of Kenton-on-Sea, near the beach and river mouth. Access from the R72.
The dominant wind is south-westerly, side-onshore on this south-facing coast. Westerly and WSW winds are also favourable. The estuary can channel the wind differently from the open beach. In summer, south-westerly thermals are regular in the afternoon.
Strong current at the river mouth, especially on outgoing tide. Shore break on the ocean side. Sharks present in these waters. Don't sail alone. Check tide conditions before sailing in the estuary.
