Silverstroomstrand is a West Coast beach between Cape Town and Langebaan, about 50km north of the city. The long sandy beach is popular for camping and braais (South African barbecues). The kite spot offers reliable wind conditions with the Cape Doctor SE. The beach faces west, making SE side-offshore, but in strong wind conditions remain good.
Works in strong SE, S and SSW from October to March. Atlantic swell present. Rideable at all tides but low tide offers more beach. Wind picks up early afternoon.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Moderate ocean waves. Sandy bottom. Cold water (12-16°C), 4/3 wetsuit recommended. Moderate coastal current.
Large parking at Silverstroomstrand campsite. Paid access to the resort/campsite. Safe within the campsite grounds.
The SE (Cape Doctor) is side-offshore on this west-facing beach. S and SSW are more favorable (side-shore to side-onshore). In strong SE (20+ knots), conditions remain good for kiting. Typical strength 15-30 knots from October to March.
Side-offshore wind in SE — watch for drifting out to sea. Swell. Current. Cold water.
