Taghazout is Morocco's most famous surf village and one of the world's iconic surf destinations. A small Berber fishing village perched on the Atlantic cliffs 20 km north of Agadir, it has transformed into an international surf hub with dozens of surf camps, schools, cafés and shops. The village is surrounded by over 20 legendary breaks — Anchor Point, Killer Point, Hash Point, La Source, Mysteries, Panoramas, Banana Beach — offering world-class right-handers from September to April.
For kitesurfing and wingfoil, Taghazout is a secondary but growing spot. Freewing Morocco school operates from the bay offering wingfoil, kitesurf (IKO-certified) and surf-foil lessons, with jetski-assisted tow-starts. Kite/wingfoil works mainly during trade wind season (April-October) when NE trades blow cross-onshore, reinforced by thermal effect in the afternoon. Wind can reach force 6-7 in summer.
The best kite launch spot is at Tamraght, the neighbouring village to the south, where Banana Beach and Devil's Rock offer sandy stretches better suited for kite than Taghazout village itself (rocky points, surf priority). Freewing Morocco also takes students to other spots along the Agadir-Tamri coast depending on conditions.
The setting is exceptional: colourful bohemian village, rooftop terraces overlooking the breaks, fresh Moroccan cuisine, relaxed yoga-surf atmosphere. When the wind drops, surfing, SUP and coastline exploration take over — the perfect multi-sport destination.

Numerous surf camps and surf schools: Surf Berbere, Hash Point Surf Camp, Salt House Morocco, Natural Surf Morocco, Yalah Surf Camp, Dfrost, Solid Surf House, and many more. Most offer accommodation + lessons + transport to spots.
Taghazout is primarily a surf spot — kitesurfers must respect the lineup and surfers have priority on rocky points (Anchor Point, Hash Point, Killers). Kitesurf and wingfoil are practised on sandy beaches, mainly:
Freewing Morocco operates as a mobile school, taking students to the best spot for the day. Kite/wingfoil sessions in the afternoon when thermal reinforces the trades. Surf foil and tow-foil with jetski support also available.
Highly varied conditions depending on the spot. Rocky points (Anchor Point, Killers, Hash Point) offer world-class right-handers of 1-4m+ on reef bottom — for experienced surfers only. Sandy beaches (Banana Beach, Devil's Rock, Panoramas) offer gentler waves of 0.5-2m, accessible to all levels. For kite/wingfoil, water conditions range from choppy to small waves depending on wind and swell. Cool water: 16-22°C depending on season, 3/2mm wetsuit recommended, 4/3mm in winter. Currents present especially around the points.

Taghazout is 20 km north of Agadir (30 min drive) and 15 km south of Tamri. Agadir Al-Massira International Airport 45-60 min away. Parking in town is increasingly difficult — paid car parks have been set up near Anchor Point, Boilers and Banana Beach. Tamraght (neighbouring village to the south) is often more practical for parking and accessing kite beaches. Many surf camps offer accommodation + transport to spots. Local buses from Agadir.
Mandatory respect of surf lineup — kitesurfers are not always welcome on rocky points, especially in strong conditions. Ride only on sandy beaches for kite. Rocky points are dangerous: sharp reef, sea urchins, strong currents around headlands. Powerful rips at Anchor Point and Killers. Sometimes violent shore break on beach breaks. Offshore wind (East) in winter = dangerous, do not go out. No rescue infrastructure at most spots.
Wind patterns at Taghazout are similar to the Canary Islands. NE trade winds dominate from April to October, reinforced by powerful thermal effect when inland Morocco overheats. Wind starts late morning and builds through the afternoon, potentially reaching force 6-7 (25-30+ knots) in peak summer. Important: spots south of Cap Ghir (including Taghazout) are significantly less windy than Essaouira — wind is more thermal-driven, less consistent, with windless days common even in summer. From October to March, wind is notably rarer (afternoon NW breeze, irregular). This is then surf season with powerful NW swells.
