Azemmour is a fascinating historic city 70 km southwest of Casablanca, perched on the right bank at the mouth of the Oum er-Rbia, Morocco's longest river (555 km). A former Phoenician port and Portuguese trading post in the 16th century, the town retains an authentic medina with white houses overlooking the river.
The kite spot is located at the Oum er-Rbia river mouth and along the vast Plage Lalla Aicha El Bahria, which stretches 15 km south towards El Jadida in a preserved natural setting. The river mouth offers a mix of flat water (river side) and waves (ocean side), set against a dramatic backdrop featuring an impressive shipwreck on the southern bank. The banks are primarily stone-covered.
This is a little-known spot, mainly used by local kitesurfers from Casablanca and El Jadida, and by riders passing through along the Moroccan Atlantic coast. From September to June, the beach is virtually deserted — a true private playground. In summer, Moroccan holidaymakers can crowd the area.
Casablanca Mohammed V Airport is just 50 minutes via motorway, making it one of Morocco's most accessible kite spots from Europe.

The spot works with North winds, the best setup. NE trade wind blows cross-shore. Stronger N wind makes conditions excellent with well-formed flat water on the river side and clean waves on the ocean side. The river mouth area requires solid skills due to currents and stony bottom. The long sandy beach to the south (Lalla Aicha) is more accessible, with beach break over sandy bottom. 4x4 access possible directly on the stones up to the river mouth, some regular cars manage it too.
Mix of flat water and waves depending on the zone. River side/mouth: flatter water, stony bottom. Ocean side: Atlantic beach break with sometimes significant waves, especially in winter. Water temperature: 17°C in winter to 23°C in summer. 3/2mm wetsuit recommended year-round, shorty possible in summer.

Azemmour is 70 km southwest of Casablanca, directly accessible via motorway (50 min from Mohammed V Airport). From Azemmour town centre, the beach is 15 min walk or 2 min drive. 4x4 access to the river mouth, driving over the stones. Informal parking on the beach. Very typical village — Moulay Bouchaib street offers a real glimpse of traditional Moroccan life in the evenings.
Strong currents at the Oum er-Rbia river mouth, especially on falling tide. Stony bottom and shipwreck at the mouth — watch your gear and feet. Sometimes powerful shore break on the ocean beach. Isolated spot with no rescue — ride with company. Beach can be packed with swimmers in July-August.
Dominant N and NE wind, blowing onshore to cross-shore depending on beach orientation. The coast between Casablanca and El Jadida is less consistently windy than Essaouira — wind is more thermal and synoptic-dependent. Best wind season: April to September with trades + thermal. Outside the season, windy spells are linked to Atlantic depressions and fronts. 12-25 knots typical, exceeding 30 knots in strong North wind events.
