Macassar is a kitesurfing spot located between Muizenberg and Strand, on the northern shore of False Bay. The long wild beach of Macassar/Wolfgat offers plenty of space and excellent wind conditions. Less crowded than Strand or Muizenberg Corner, it's a good choice for riders seeking space. The spot is bordered by the Macassar dunes and Wolfgat Nature Reserve.
Works in SE and SSE, from October to March. Rideable at all tides. The beach is very long, offering considerable riding space. Warning: isolated area, always ride in a group.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Small to medium waves on sandy bottom. Chop in strong wind. Water at 16-20°C, 3/2 wetsuit. Lateral current possible in strong SE.
Access via Macassar roads. Parking on sand or dirt. Isolated area — leave absolutely nothing in your vehicle. Avoid coming alone, theft and mugging are a real risk in this area.
The SE (Cape Doctor) blows onshore to side-onshore, strong and steady, 15-30 knots from October to March. This section of coast is well exposed to the SE crossing the bay. SSE also works well. Conditions are often windy and powerful.
SAFETY: Isolated area with risks of theft and mugging — never come alone and leave nothing in your vehicle. Sharks (great whites) in False Bay. Lateral current. Dune area — don't wander away from the beach.
