Rooi Els is a small isolated coastal village at the eastern end of False Bay, at the foot of Clarence Drive pass. The coast is rocky and wild with powerful wave conditions. The spot is exposed and technical, with a spectacular setting between mountain and ocean. Rooi Els marks the transition between False Bay and the Overberg coast.
Works in SE, ESE and E from October to March. Rocky coast, technical access. Waves 1 to 2.5m. Tide strongly influences access.
Powerful waves on rocky bottom. Abundant kelp. Cold water (12-16°C), 4/3 wetsuit. Strong current.
