Spot de Dar Bouazza

Dar Bouazza

Dar Bouazza

Overview

Dar Bouazza is a reef spot on the coast south of Casablanca, centered around the rocky point known as Dar Kouch/La Bobine. This old fishing village has become a rapidly developed coastal suburb of the city, and is primarily known as a surf destination.

The spot features a quality left-hand reef break (La Bobine) that works when swell exceeds 1.5m — one of the best lefts in the region. The wave breaks best at low tide when the wreck ("La Bobine") is visible. It can work at high tide too, but launch and exit become challenging.

For kitesurfing and wingfoil, Dar Bouazza's rocky point (Dar Kouch) is the main gathering place for Casablanca's kite community. The spot works best with northerly winds thanks to the protection offered by the rocky headland to the north. Like Jack Beach nearby, wind is inconsistent — thermal-dependent in summer, occasional strong NE in spring, and powerful southerly winter fronts.

The beaches of Oued Merzeg (further south in the bay) offer another spot where city kiters meet, with better wave sessions during cross-shore winter storms. From Dar Bouazza south towards Tamaris, there are more open beach options.

From Casablanca, take the coastal road towards El Jadida. Dar Bouazza is about 12 km south of the city. Turn right at the sharp bend towards the coast just before Jack Beach. Limited parking near the rocky point. About 30 minutes from central Casablanca.

Wind specificities
Wind is inconsistent compared to Essaouira or Dakhla. This zone between Rabat and south of Casablanca gets less regular wind due to the coast orientation and the Iberian peninsula above. The spot works with: northerly winds (best thanks to point protection), NE trade in spring (occasional sustained sessions 9-12m²), southerly storm fronts in winter (strong, gusty, great wave sessions with 7-8m²). Cross-on to onshore, often gusty.

Hazards
Sea urchins! The reef is heavily infested — wear booties at all times. Rocky bottom makes entry and exit tricky, especially at high tide. Gusty wind conditions require experience. Limited launch/landing area at high tide, very tight on the tiny rocky point. 10-15 kites on windy weekends — watch for congestion.
