The Yachthafen (Norderney) is a flat water spot located directly west of the Frisia ferry terminal, on the Watt side (south of the island). Shallow water where you can stand, perfect for beginners. This is where the large Surfschule Happy is located with full infrastructure (lessons, rental). The island of Norderney, nicknamed "Surferinsel", is the only Frisian island accessible by car. Tide-dependent spot: only kiteable 2–3h around high tide. At low tide, the water is insufficient. The ferry channel is in the immediate vicinity — major hazard.
Frisia ferry from Norddeich (signposted from Emden, A31). Spot directly west of the ferry terminal. Surfschule Happy on site — VDWS lessons, equipment rental. Park near the Hafen. Only enter the water during the tide window (2–3h around HW). Watch the ferry and stay out of the channel at all times.
Beginner
SW/WSW dominant and best. NW/N also possible (choppier water). Flat water guaranteed when the wind is cross-shore. Alternative to the neighboring Pegel spot when it is less favorable. Surfschule Happy here = regional reference for beginners.
Kite only 2–3h around high tide (Yachthafen dry at low tide). Frisia ferry channel in front of the spot — the large ferry does not deviate! Stay absolutely out of the channel. Very strong currents in the channel at ebb tide. Small access inlet flooded at high tide — check before departure.
