Overview

Saint-Cyprien-Plage Nord — Pyrénées-Orientales, between Saint-Cyprien and Canet-en-Roussillon. One of the best kitesurf spots in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Wide sandy beach facing ESE, excellent signage separating kiters, windsurfers, surfers and swimmers.

Works principally with sea wind (Marin SE / thermal). In summer, the SE thermal builds reliably in the afternoon. Large dedicated kite launch area to the left of the parking. Summer chenal marked with buoys for crossing the 300 m bathing zone. By depressions, swells can exceed 1.50 m near the digue — great for kitewave. By strong Tramontane NW: offshore, technical, for experienced riders only.

Panoramic view of the Canigou mountain in the background — spectacular setting. Multiple kite/wind schools based here (CBCM, Kitoo). Parking right next to the beach.

Spot currently open :-)

Parking

Parking directly next to the beach. Separate windsurf and kite channels marked. Paid in July-August. Handiplage labelled — disabled access with ramp to waterfront.

Hazards

Ganivelles and posts: on the beach — can make kite launching/landing technical. Clear the zone before handling your kite. Tramontane offshore: pushes you out to sea, must master upwind sailing. By Tramontane NW strong: only for experienced riders. Digue/breakwater: waves build near the digue by SE wind, don't get too close. Houles: rare E/NE swells can reach 1.50-2 m near the digue. Crowds in summer: swimmers, kite zone and chenal strictly enforced with buoys and signage.

Wind specificities

SE Thermal / Marin: main wind for this spot. Reliable summer thermal, builds in the afternoon. Can reach 25-30 kts on best days. Waves form well near the digue. The site of Canet–Saint-Cyprien is renowned for its SE thermal. SE better for this spot than at Leucate where the Tramontane dominates.

Tramontane (NW/NNW): offshore, offshore wind pushes you out. By Tramontane forte orientée nord: small waves over sandbar. Good for experienced riders, not beginners. Tramontane blows 300+ days/year regionally.

Canigou backdrop: spectacular mountain view, especially by Tramontane (side-shore with the mountain in the background).
