Ixia is one of the most famous windsurfing and kitesurfing spots on Rhodes, located on the northwest coast a few kilometers south of Rhodes Town. This world-renowned spot benefits from perfect exposure to the Meltemi blowing from the NW sector, creating powerful and consistent side-onshore conditions. The pebble beach stretches along the coastal road lined with hotels and water sports centers. Ixia is particularly renowned for windsurfing and windfoiling, with some of the most reliable wind conditions in the Aegean Sea.
Ixia works with the NW Meltemi side-onshore to onshore. Several professional water sports centers (windsurf, kite, wing, foil) operate along the beach with equipment rental and lessons. The sailing area extends offshore over a wide space. Windsurfers and kitesurfers share the area — respect assigned zones. Water gets deep fairly quickly from shore (pebble beach). The spot is performance-oriented: strong wind, chop, conditions for experienced riders. Works from June to September.
Aegean Sea on Rhodes' west coast, 22-26°C in summer. 2mm shorty sufficient, lycra possible in August. Pebble then sand/rock bottom. Deep water quickly from shore. Strong to very strong chop when Meltemi is established, with short waves of 0.5-1.5m. Demanding conditions in strong wind — typical choppy conditions of Rhodes' west coast. Moderate current along the coast toward the south.

Parking along the coastal road at Ixia. Water sports centers and hotels have parking for their clients. Roadside spaces, some paid in high season. The spot is accessible by bus from Rhodes Town (regular line). Many accommodations within walking distance.
Very strong wind that can exceed 35 knots in gusts — must adapt sail/kite size. Powerful choppy conditions, tiring and potentially dangerous for unprepared riders. Pebble beach — injury risk on landing, booties recommended. Dense nautical traffic (windsurf, kite, wing, foil) — respect priorities and zones. Current along the coast. Strong sun exposure. Ferry/boat zone near Rhodes Town — do not sail too far north.
Ixia benefits from the Meltemi channeled between the mountains of Rhodes (Attavyros, 1215m) and the sea, creating a powerful thermal effect that reinforces the coastal wind. Wind blows from NW to W, side-onshore to onshore on this west-facing coast. Typical strength of 20-30 knots in summer, with regular gusts to 35+. Wind usually picks up around 11am-noon, reaches maximum strength between 2pm and 6pm, then gradually eases. The thermal effect adds to the synoptic Meltemi, making Ixia windier than spots further south on the island. Very reliable season from June to September with 80%+ windy days in July-August.
