The Watt (Wattenmeer side of Norderney, north) is a flat shallow water zone between the Nordstrand and the Weisse Düne, accessible from the dike at high tide. Large shallow area in the Nationalpark, ideal for learning or training in flat water. Spectacular views over the sandbanks and the north coast of the island. North-side Watt spot: the dominant SW/W wind is best (free wind from the west, Watt-side water protected from swell). Tide-dependent. Strict Wattenmeer Nationalpark Niedersachsen regulations.
Surfschule Happy (Yachthafen, Norderney) — the island's largest windsurf school in Germany. Kite and windsurf lessons, equipment rental.
Access from the north side of the island. Walk from the main beach towards the Weisse Düne (east), then access the Watt on the north side depending on the tide. Kiteable 3 hours before to 3 hours after high tide. At low tide: Watt completely dry. Monitor the receding tide to avoid getting stranded far from shore.
Intermediate
SW/W ideal — free wind from the North Sea, flat Watt water. North side of the island: same regulations as Nordstrand (3h after sunrise per NordSBefV). Flat water guaranteed at high tide with cross wind.
Buhnen (groynes) in the water — do not sail too close to the edges. West side: curved shoreline towards the south (wind can become slightly onshore). Wattenmeer Nationalpark: seal and bird protection zones must be respected. NordSBefV regulations — kiting allowed 3h before/after high tide. Spring tides: check the schedules.
