Surf Beach is the wave spot of Rømø island, located on the west coast facing the North Sea. Unlike the Lakolk spot further north which is more beginner/flat water oriented, Surf Beach offers more exposed conditions with waves and a more dynamic water surface.
This spot is ideal for intermediate riders looking to progress in waves and North Sea conditions while enjoying Rømø's immense beaches.
Open all year round
Intermediate
North Sea conditions with waves. Water is cold, wetsuit required year-round. Tides strongly influence conditions and the rideable surface.
Car access directly onto the beach. Immense space available. The island is accessible by road from the mainland via a causeway.
Best winds: N, NNW, NW, S, SSW, SW, W. Westerly winds create the best wave conditions. Consistent and powerful winds thanks to direct North Sea exposure.
Monitor tides and currents. Conditions can change rapidly in the North Sea. Do not sail in offshore (east) winds. Be aware of the shoreline which can change with tides.
