Kitesurf spot on the wild beach at Maguelone (Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone, 34), between Palavas-les-Flots and Frontignan, on the Mediterranean coast south of Montpellier. One of the most beautiful and most isolated wild beaches in the region — no buildings, 8 km of beach between sea and lagoons (Étang de la Pierre Blanche and Étang du Prévost). Official kite zone midway between the Maguelone Cathedral and the Parking du Prévost. Known as a training ground for champions. Access: park at the Cathedral parking (free out of season) or Parking du Prévost, then 15–20 min walk, or use the free petit train (Apr 29–Sep 17). School on site: KWM Kiteschool.

Tramontane (NW) is offshore — experienced riders only in this direction. Strictly reserved for autonomous riders able to return upwind. Rescue in open sea is difficult and slow. Do not ride alone when wind is offshore. In summer (high season), the kite zone is surrounded by swimmers — approach carefully. Parking is a 15-20 min walk from the spot (or free shuttle train Apr 29 to Sep 17).
Two very different modes: Tramontane (NW/WNW) gives flat water and strong, consistent wind but is fully offshore — expert level only, capable of returning upwind is mandatory. Marin/thermal (S to SW) in summer is the safest option — side-on to slightly onshore, slightly choppier but no drift risk. SE (Marin) also works. W is possible. The spot is renowned for consistent, clean conditions when the Tramontane or summer thermals are running.
