Schellinkhout is one of the most popular flatwater kitespots in the Netherlands, located on the Markermeer about 3km southeast of Hoorn. Shallow water with SW, W, S and SE winds creating flat to choppy conditions — perfect for beginners, freestyle and freeride. The kite zone is between two stone dikes; rig on the grass before entering the water.
Best spot in the region when Schellinkhout is at its best — though it's one of the busiest spots in Noord-Holland on good SW days. Several mobile kite schools operate here. Parking free. Food available at the spot restaurant. More info: NKV Spotkaart

Beginner
Shallow water (hip-deep) over a wide area — easy to stand up. Short chop typical of inland waters. Flat to lightly choppy conditions, no current or tide. Ideal for freeride and freestyle.
Free parking at the spot. Rig on the grass before entering the water between the stone dikes.
W, SW, S and SE winds are the optimal directions — onshore to side-onshore on the Markermeer. The dominant Dutch wind direction SW works perfectly here. Water is flat to lightly choppy, characteristic of the Markermeer. An official NKV wind station is installed on site for real-time accurate measurements (data refreshed every 10 min).
Kite zone strictly between the two stone dikes — do not go outside the markers. Nature and swimming areas adjacent: respect the boundaries. Can get very crowded on good wind days. Booties recommended (shells on the bottom). Wind can be gusty near the dikes.
