Étang Aumée is an inland flat water kitesurf spot near Pontchâteau in Loire-Atlantique. Calm lake conditions ideal for beginners, foiling and light wind sessions. Good introduction spot for the Loire-Atlantique kite community. Very different from the coast — no tidal constraints.
Access from Redon via local roads. Launch from the lake shore. Avoid rigging near the trees — move out to the centre for clean laminar wind. No tidal influence. Best conditions on hot sunny afternoons when the thermal builds over the lake. Self-organised spot.
Freshwater lake — flat to very slightly choppy. Sandy and muddy bottom. No currents, no swell, no shorebreak. Very safe environment for learning. The lake size limits the thermal effect — wind can be light on cooler days.
Beginner
Open year-round. Best season: May to September. Afternoon thermal wind most consistent June to August. A useful inland alternative when Atlantic coast conditions are too strong or unfavourable.
Southwest to northwest and north thermal winds are the most reliable. The surrounding forest creates wind shadow close to shore — the centre of the lake gives much cleaner conditions. On hot sunny days the lake heats up and generates its own local thermal cycle. Ideal for light wind foiling sessions when the Atlantic coast is too strong.
