Bahía Feliz is a small sheltered bay on the south coast of Gran Canaria, between Pozo Izquierdo and the Maspalomas/Playa del Inglés tourist resorts. Home to the Fanatic Boarders Centre (FBC), the main windsurf school on the island.
The bay offers flat water and mild conditions in the morning, ideal for beginners. When trade winds pick up, conditions can become choppy with occasional waves. The wind comes from port or starboard tack depending on direction.
FBC organizes high-wind excursions to Pozo, Vargas, and Arinaga when those spots offer better conditions (mainly June–August when Bahía Feliz gets less wind).
Fanatic Boarders Centre (FBC) — largest windsurf school on the island. Lessons, rental, excursions. North Sails, Fanatic equipment.
Flat in mornings, chop/waves afternoons. Speed, freestyle, freeride. Schools and rental. FBC excursions to high-wind spots.
Open all year round
Year-round. Lighter in peak summer.
Beginner
Flat to choppy to small waves. Sandy beach, some rocks on sides. Water 18–22°C. Shorty or 3/2mm.
Near Hotel Orchidea in Bahía Feliz. Park next to the hotel and walk through the complex to the beach. South coast, between Pozo and Maspalomas.
ENE wind (side-shore, port tack) and S–SW wind (side-onshore, starboard tack). South coast is lighter than east coast: 9–14 knots typical, sometimes more.
Summer (June–Aug): wind often too north, doesn't reach Bahía Feliz well → excursions to east coast.
Winter: can be windier than Pozo on some days (acceleration effect shifts south).
Cliff on the right side — keep distance. Shorebreak when waves arrive. Generally mild.
