Fouras Nord is a kitesurf spot at the tip of the Fouras peninsula between the Charente estuary and the Ile d'Aix channel. The north beach receives north and northwest winds with flat and sheltered water. A good alternative when southwest winds make nearby spots offshore. Intermediate level with some tidal current awareness needed.
Launch from the north beach of Fouras. Best in north to northwest wind — the north beach faces directly into these conditions. At high tide, more water available. Watch for boat traffic to Ile d'Aix. Tidal currents are strongest around the tip of the peninsula — stay in the bay area.
Sheltered bay with flat to slightly choppy water in north and northwest winds. Sandy bottom, significant tidal range. The north beach is protected from Atlantic swell by the peninsula. No breaking waves. Tidal currents around the tip can be strong — stay in the bay.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. North and northwest winds most consistent spring and autumn. The ferry to Ile d'Aix runs from Fouras — check schedules for navigation awareness.
North and northwest winds are the primary window — they arrive clean over the open bay. Southwest to west winds are also possible on the north beach as they arrive cross-shore. The peninsula tip can create local acceleration effects. The wide open water between Fouras and Ile d'Aix gives a good wind window with minimal turbulence.
