Carro — the most renowned wave spot on the Côte Bleue and one of the best wave spots in the French Mediterranean. Located in the small fishing village of Carro, municipality of Martigues, 40 km from Marseille. Renowned as much for the quality of the waves as for the strength of the wind. The Arnettes spot at the harbor mouth, facing south. Beautiful swells appear particularly at the end of the year. A very technical spot: tight swell, abrasive rocky bottom with craters, tricky launch. Reserved for experienced riders. Surfed year-round. It is just after the big Mistral events that the best conditions arrive — beautiful residual swells.

NW (Mistral): generates clean cross-offshore waves — THE conditions when the Mistral sends. After big Mistral events: magnificent residual swell. S/SE/E: onshore to side-onshore swell, waves. Beautiful end-of-year swells. NE: works, cross-onshore. Pure N: offshore — no conditions. W/SW: doesn't work well, unfavorable orientation.
VERY TECHNICAL SPOT — better to be an expert before venturing here. Tricky launch/landing: limited space. Very tight swell due to abrasive rocky bottom with craters — powerful and closely spaced waves. Strong currents. With pure N wind (full north Mistral): offshore — do not sail. With NW: cross-offshore, clean but technical waves. Abrasive rocky bottom — beware of falls/contact.
