Overview

Tug Hill Plateau is one of the best snowkite spots in the eastern United States, at 506 m elevation in northern New York State. This region receives the heaviest snowfall east of the Rockies thanks to the lake effect from Lake Ontario. The vast open fields and consistent winds make it a snowkite paradise.

Hazards

Extreme weather conditions possible with sudden blizzards. Visibility can drop rapidly. Hypothermia in very cold and windy conditions. Access roads can be impassable during storms. Make sure you have access permission for private land.

Vast snowy fields on the plateau. Abundant and regular snow all winter (lake effect snow). Rolling terrain with large flat expanses. Snow conditions among the best in the eastern US.
