Overview

Somers is a snowkite spot on Flathead Lake's north bay at 882m. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western US. Somers Bay freezes in winter and offers an excellent snowkite surface with north-south channeled valley winds. Spectacular setting with views of the Mission Mountains.

Hazards

Flathead Lake does not freeze entirely — check ice conditions in the bay. Grizzly bears in the area (Glacier proximity). Severe hypothermia. Blizzards descending from mountains. Gusty valley winds. Currents under the ice.
