Overview

Snowkite spot on frozen Lac Memphrémagog, in the Eastern Townships region. Lac Memphrémagog is a large cross-border lake (Quebec/Vermont) that freezes in winter, offering a vast ice surface for snowkiting.

The lake stretches approximately 45 km long, offering considerable fetch and riding space. South and west winds are channeled by the lake corridor framed by mountains. Ice is generally rideable from January to March, depending on winter conditions. Always check ice thickness before riding.

ALWAYS check ice thickness before riding. Current zones with thin ice (river mouths). US border (Vermont) — do not cross. Intense cold — risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Visibility conditions can deteriorate rapidly (blowing snow). Snowmobiles and other users on the frozen lake.

Ice surface — check thickness (minimum 15 cm recommended). Snow on ice providing good riding conditions. The frozen lake is vast and flat, perfect for snowkiting. Watch for current zones under the ice (river inlets) where ice can be thinner. Magnificent mountain scenery in winter.
