Haugastøl is Norway's most famous snowkite spot and one of the most renowned in Europe. Located at 990 meters altitude on the Hardangervidda plateau, between Oslo and Bergen, it is the historic starting point for snowkiting in Scandinavia. The village has tourist infrastructure (hotel, train station) providing easy access. The plateau offers kilometers of open terrain with consistent west to northwest winds. The season runs from December to April with optimal conditions in February-March. Numerous snowkite events and competitions are held here. The terrain is varied with flat areas and gentle slopes.
