Roccaraso is the main snowkite spot in Abruzzo, located in the Maiella massif at 1341 m altitude. This renowned ski resort in central Italy offers vast snowy plateaus ideal for snowkiting. The Roccaraso plateaus (Altopiano delle Cinquemiglia and Aremogna) offer large open flat spaces, perfect for snowkiting. West to northwest winds (Maestrale, Ponente) and northerly winds (Tramontana) blow regularly over these high-altitude plateaus, providing reliable conditions from December to March.

Large parking lots at the Roccaraso/Aremogna ski lifts. Paid during ski season. Access from the A25 motorway (L'Aquila-Pescara) then national road. About 2 hours from Rome, 1.5 hours from Pescara.
Changing mountain weather conditions. Intense cold (down to -15°C). Reduced visibility due to fog or snowfall. Respect snowkite practice areas to avoid disturbing skiers. Avalanche risk off-piste.
