In the the tourskiing area near Chamonix there is Le tour, and higher up in col de balme there is a medium sized snowkiting spot which is close to the lifts. We went twice in december 2022 when covid restrictions had closed the lifts. We hiked up and facing the mountain kept left untill the last lift to cole de balm. we could see the refuge du col de balme from where we had set up.
The hike was about 45 minutes to an hour. You can get a day pass at the station le tour col de balme and take the lift and you would be there at 15 taking you up all the way to the refuge from where you can set up the snowkite. We did not make it all that way so we had to ride the south west wind which seemed to be a thermal that set in from the valley which starts in chamonix leading to argentiere all the way up.
Open all year round
Resort (Ski lift access)
Altitude: 2005m
