Lago de GĂĽija is a kitesurfing spot on the border between El Salvador and Guatemala, in the Santa Ana department, at 430 m altitude. This natural lake offers flat water ideal for freestyle and progression.
During the dry season (November to April), cold fronts bring powerful northerly winds of 15-30 knots, averaging 5 out of 7 days per week. Skies are clear and conditions are excellent. The rainy season (May to October) raises the lake level, covering the beach.
The spot is undeveloped but welcoming. National kitesurfing competitions are held here. Access is about 2 hours from San Salvador. The sand beach is usable from mid-January when the level drops.
Open all year round
