Placencia Beach is the main kitesurfing spot on mainland Belize, located along a long sandy peninsula in the south of the country. The U-shaped beach offers good launching and landing areas for all levels.
Easterly thermal winds build in the afternoon between 12-20 knots, with the best season from November to April and peak sessions in February-March. The barrier reef about 500 m offshore creates flat to slightly choppy water inside the reef, ideal for learning.
Water is warm year-round. Unlike the cayes, Placencia is accessible by car from Belize City. The vibe is laid-back with no particular restrictions. The spot suits beginners and experienced riders alike.
Open all year round
