Mui Ne Bay is one of the most famous kitesurfing destinations in Southeast Asia, located in Binh Thuan Province on Vietnam's south-central coast. The bay stretches for several kilometers along the coast, offering a vast playground for kiters of all levels. The northeast monsoon blows reliably from November to April, delivering consistent 15-25 knot winds that have made this area a world-renowned kite mecca.
The bay's geography creates ideal conditions: a long sandy beach with side-shore to side-onshore winds from the northeast. The water is warm year-round (26-30°C), and the sandy bottom slopes gently, creating a forgiving environment for beginners while providing enough open water for advanced riders to practice freestyle and big air. The famous Mui Ne wind is thermal-enhanced, often picking up strongly in the afternoon.
The kite community here is massive, with dozens of schools, shops, and rental centers lining the beach road. During peak season (December-March), hundreds of kites fill the sky daily. The area offers flat water zones near the shore and choppier conditions further out. Accommodation ranges from budget guesthouses to luxury resorts, all within walking distance of the launch areas.
Be aware of the strong currents that can develop, especially during tidal changes. The beach can get very crowded during peak season, so respect right-of-way rules. Rescue boat services are available from most schools. The spot is also excellent for wingfoiling in lighter wind conditions.
