Spot de Phuket - Nai Yang Beach

Phuket - Nai Yang Beach

Phuket - Nai Yang Beach

Overview

Nai Yang Beach is one of Phuket's two main kitesurfing spots, located on the northwest coast of the island just 5 minutes from Phuket International Airport. This beautiful bay offers shallow waters extending about 500 meters from shore, making it an excellent spot for beginners and foiling enthusiasts. The beach is part of Sirinath National Park, lending it a more natural, less developed atmosphere compared to other Phuket beaches.

The kitesurfing season at Nai Yang runs from May to October during the southwest monsoon, when winds blow consistently from the SW/W direction at 12-25 knots. This is the opposite season to most Gulf of Thailand spots, making Phuket a great option when the east coast is calm. The wind can be gusty and is sometimes followed by rain, with May and September being the wettest months.

The shallow bay provides a safe learning environment, while beyond the shallows, deeper water offers good conditions for foiling and freeride. Small waves build during stronger wind days, adding excitement for more experienced riders. Several kite schools operate from the beach during season, offering equipment rental and certified instruction.

Being so close to the airport, Nai Yang is incredibly convenient for kite travelers. The beach has a relaxed, local feel with beachfront restaurants and massage parlors. Planes landing overhead add a unique visual element to your kite sessions.
