Vellai Island is a small island north of the Kalpitiya peninsula in North Western Province. The island sits between the lagoon and the open Indian Ocean, offering riding in multiple directions during the SW monsoon (May-October).
An intermediate to advanced spot due to its remote island location. Access by boat only. The island offers both flat water on the lee side and waves on the exposed side. Sandy bottom with some coral. Strong currents can develop around the island. Bring your own equipment and be self-sufficient. A true adventure kite spot.
Open all year round
