Habushiura Beach is a kitesurfing and surfing spot located on Niijima Island, a volcanic island in the Izu Archipelago off Tokyo. This east-facing beach is one of the most beautiful in Japan with its white volcanic sand (rhyolite) and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Niijima is nicknamed "Tokyo's Hawaii" for the quality of its waves and beaches. Habushiura is exposed to Pacific swells and northeast winds that blow consistently in winter, creating excellent conditions for surfing and wave kitesurfing. In summer, southwest winds cross the island and arrive offshore on this east-facing beach, which can limit kite sessions but offers clean surfing conditions. Waves can be powerful, reaching 2 to 3 meters during strong swells. The spot is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. Niijima Island is accessible by ferry from Tokyo (approximately 10 hours) or by plane from Chofu Airport (40 minutes). The island has campsites, guesthouses, and free seaside hot springs (onsen).
