Spot de Shirahama Beach

Shirahama Beach

Shirahama Beach

Overview

Shirahama Beach is a spot located on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture. This white sand beach is one of the most famous in the region, known for its turquoise waters reminiscent of tropical beaches. The spot faces southeast, offering good exposure to the dominant winds. In winter, north/northeast winds are the most frequent and consistent, creating ideal side-offshore conditions. In summer, southeast thermal breezes can also be rideable. Pacific swell regularly reaches the beach, offering interesting wave conditions for surfing and wave kitesurfing. The spot is popular with surfers and can be crowded in high season. It is recommended to sail early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid crowds. Shimoda, the historic town where Commodore Perry landed, is nearby and offers accommodations and restaurants.
