Enoshima is one of Japan's most iconic kitesurfing spots, located in Sagami Bay in the heart of the Shonan region, Kanagawa Prefecture. The spot benefits from an exceptional geographical setting: Enoshima Island creates a venturi effect that accelerates and channels the winds, providing optimal conditions for kitesurfing. The beach is easily accessible from Tokyo in about one hour by train.
The main season runs from November to April, when prevailing northeast winds blow consistently between 15 and 25 knots. In summer, southwest thermal breezes also provide enjoyable sessions, though less powerful. Two riding areas are found on either side of the island: Higashihama (east) and Nishihama (west), allowing riding regardless of wind direction.
The waters of Sagami Bay are relatively sheltered from open ocean swell, creating ideal conditions for riders of all levels. The water offers a mix of flat water and small chop depending on conditions. The area is subject to Pacific tides, so it is important to check tide schedules before each session.
Enoshima has complete infrastructure with kitesurf schools, equipment rentals, and numerous shops. The spot is very popular and can get crowded on windy days. The beach also offers a spectacular view of Mount Fuji on clear days.
