Anjuna Beach is one of Goa's most iconic coastal destinations, located on the western coast of India in North Goa. Famous for its vibrant atmosphere, flea markets, and trance music scene, Anjuna also offers kitesurfing opportunities during the monsoon season. The wide sandy beach stretches along the Arabian Sea, backed by rocky outcrops and coconut palm groves that give it a distinctive character unlike any other kite spot in India.
The prime kitesurfing season at Anjuna runs from May to September during the southwest monsoon (Habagat equivalent), when strong onshore winds from the northwest and west blow consistently at 15-25 knots. These monsoon winds are thermal-enhanced during the afternoon, often building from moderate morning breezes to strong afternoon gusts. The water temperature remains warm year-round (26-29°C), so a rashguard is all you need for sun protection.
The beach break at Anjuna can produce significant shore break during the monsoon, with waves ranging from 1-3 meters. This creates exciting wave riding conditions for experienced kiters but can make launching and landing challenging. The sandy bottom is generally forgiving, though scattered rocks near the northern end of the beach require caution. The riding area is expansive when conditions are favorable, with plenty of room for multiple kiters.
Goa's infrastructure makes it one of the most accessible kite destinations in India, with international flights, abundant accommodation ranging from beach shacks to luxury resorts, and a thriving food and nightlife scene. Anjuna's proximity to other Goa beaches like Arambol and Morjim means you can easily explore multiple spots in a single trip. The off-season (October to April) brings the northeast monsoon with lighter, offshore winds that are generally not suitable for kitesurfing at this west-facing beach.
