Overview

Black Rock Sands (Morfa Bychan) is a huge hard sand beach on the Cardigan Bay coast, near Porthmadog. One of the few Welsh beaches where you can drive on the sand. Facing south-west, the 3 km beach offers enormous space for kitesurfing. Regular conditions in the prevailing south-west winds. Spectacular views of the Snowdonia mountains.

Car access directly onto the beach (paid in season). Parking also available at the top of the beach. Accessible from Porthmadog.
Hazards
Vehicles on the beach — stay vigilant during kite launching and landing. Tidal currents. Fast incoming tide on this very flat beach. Black Rock rocks at one end.
