Silvaplana See is one of Europe's most famous kitesurf spots, located in the Upper Engadine at 1794 m altitude. The lake benefits from the Maloja thermal wind, a south-westerly wind that blows reliably almost every afternoon in summer, typically between 12pm and 6pm. This wind is created by the venturi effect of the Maloja Pass channeling air from the Italian Val Bregaglia into the Engadine. The water is cold even in summer (max 18°C) and the Alpine setting with views of Piz Corvatsch is spectacular.
