Porto Santo is a small island 40 km northeast of Madeira, reachable by ferry (2h30) or plane (15 min). Unlike volcanic Madeira, Porto Santo has a 9 km golden sand beach — the only proper sandy beach in the archipelago. Average wind 14 knots, water 19-25°C.
Main issue: dominant N-NE wind is side-offshore on the south-facing beach. Not suitable for beginners without rescue. Sandy bottom, small waves, no obstacles on 2 km of open beach.
All year round destination with mild subtropical climate. The island is quiet, uncrowded, and stunningly beautiful. Christopher Columbus once lived here.

Side-offshore wind (N-NE) is the norm — risk of being blown out to sea. Do NOT kite alone without rescue. Summer wind can be gusty.
