Westkapelle is the westernmost point of the island of Walcheren and one of Zeeland's most rugged kitesurfing and surf spots. The village shelters behind an imposing sea dyke, and the wide sandy beach 2.5km south of the village offers raw North Sea conditions with solid wave potential.
The kitesurf spot is adjacent to the surf spot, with direct parking on the dyke — no carrying gear. The spot works with wind directions from S through W to NW and is particularly popular with intermediate to advanced kiters looking for waves and power. In summer, sessions are effectively restricted to early morning or evening, or when the beach is deserted in strong winds.
Atmospheric spot: views of Westerschelde shipping lanes towards Antwerp and Vlissingen ferry crossing add to the unique industrial-maritime character.
Park directly on the dyke at the kite/surf spot — no additional walk required. The kite zone is next to the surf area, south of the village. At high tide check the groyne positions carefully.

Open all year round
From Roosendaal take the A58 to Middelburg, then west on the N288 to Westkapelle. Parking directly on the dyke at the spot, 2.5km south of the village centre.
⚠️ Not suitable for beginners: strong currents varying with the tide, groynes submerged at high tide — risk of collision.
⚠️ Summer daytime restrictions (officially 10:00–19:00 no kitesurfing), though tolerated when beaches are quiet in strong winds. Always check conditions on arrival.
⚠️ North wind: gusty near the shore when launching — turbulence from the high dyke. Once on the water it cleans up.
⚠️ Freighters and ferry traffic visible from the Westerschelde shipping lane — stay aware of the maritime environment.
