Oosterschelde / Roompot Strand is a kitesurf spot on the Eastern Scheldt (Oosterschelde), a Natura 2000 protected estuary in Zeeland, near the Roompot recreation area and the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier (one of the Delta Works). Unlike the open North Sea, the Oosterschelde offers more sheltered conditions with less swell — flatter and more accessible.
Works with N/NNE/NE/E and W/WNW/NW winds. ⚠️ Strictly respect NKV zone boundaries — the Oosterschelde is a highly protected nature reserve, violations can result in fines. Tidal currents can be strong. Movement Sports kite school operates here. Known locally as 'Roompot'. Popular with families staying at Roompot holiday park.
Movement Sports (kite school operating in the Oosterschelde/Roompot area). Roompot recreation park (holiday park directly adjacent to the spot). NKV designated zone — check information signs on site.
NKV zone signposted on site. Tide-dependent — check current direction and speed before launching (tidal currents in the Oosterschelde can be 2–3 knots). Roompot holiday park has full facilities nearby (restaurant, shop, accommodation). GPS: Roompot Beach, Noord-Beveland. Access via N256 Zeelandbrug direction.
Oosterschelde: sheltered estuary — flat to light chop, no swell. Tidal currents can be 2–3 knots (check before each session). Salt water. Shallow in some areas, deeper in the channel. Cold year-round. Flatter and calmer than the North Sea — better for intermediate level riders wanting North Sea alternative. Prohibited for kitesurfing in Waddenzee areas (beyond estuary).
Intermediate
Open all year round
N/NNE/NE/E and W/WNW/NW all work onshore or cross-shore. S/SSW: less ideal (passes over land). Wind slightly less strong than open North Sea (protected position). NKV zone respects nature reserve boundaries — check signage.
