Putzu Idu is a kitesurf spot on the west coast of Sardinia, at the tip of the Sinis Peninsula near Oristano. Just north of the legendary Capo Mannu, it offers a slightly more accessible alternative with a sandy beach and flat to moderate water. The Maestrale (northwest) and Scirocco (southeast) dominate. The area is part of a protected marine reserve, with exceptional water clarity and rich underwater life. The remote, unspoilt character of the Sinis Peninsula makes it a special destination.
Putzu Idu has a long sandy beach with easy access and good space for launching. The spot is popular with both kite and windsurf schools operating in summer. Ride downwind along the beach towards the Mandriola end, then walk back. The shallow sandy bottom near shore makes self-rescue easy. A good spot for progression with plenty of open water downwind.
Open sea with moderate chop of 0.3 to 0.8m in Maestrale. Sandy bottom near shore transitioning to posidonia at depth. Long downwind run available along the Sinis coast. Water is very clear and warm in summer. No breaking waves under normal conditions.

Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. The Sinis Peninsula is a protected natural area — respect access regulations. Best Maestrale conditions: June to September.
Free parking in the small village of Putzu Idu, accessible from the SP6 road. Basic services in the village (bar, restaurant). Quiet outside summer season.
Strong Maestrale — can be very powerful at Putzu Idu due to the open exposure of the Sinis Peninsula. Rocky reef to the south near Capo Mannu. No lifeguard. Remote area — ride with a buddy and bring a charged phone.
Putzu Idu is directly exposed to the Maestrale coming off the open sea with no land obstacles to the northwest. The wind arrives clean, powerful and consistent, typically 15 to 32 knots in summer. It builds progressively through the morning and reaches its peak in early to mid afternoon. No significant thermal effect — the Maestrale here is purely synoptic. Gusts are present but the long fetch produces a relatively laminar flow.
