Porto Botte is one of the best beginner kitesurf spots in Sardinia, located on the southwest coast near Carbonia. The vast bay offers a wide and flat sandy beach with shallow, clear water ideal for learning. Wind comes from multiple directions — Maestrale (northwest), Libeccio (west-southwest) and Scirocco (southeast) — ensuring frequent riding opportunities throughout summer. The protected nature of the bay minimises dangerous swell. A top destination for kite schools and beginners.
Porto Botte is an ideal beginner spot — the vast shallow bay allows riders to launch and land easily on the sandy beach. No formal zone organisation but the wide space means plenty of room for everyone. Kite schools operate here in summer. Ride downwind along the bay and walk back along the beach.
Flat to very slightly choppy water throughout the bay. Sandy bottom at 0.3 to 1m across most of the riding area — riders can stand up easily. No breaking waves inside the bay. The protected position makes it one of the flattest natural kite spots in southern Sardinia.

Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. Optimal wind conditions: June to September with the summer Maestrale. Relatively quiet even in peak season compared to more touristy spots.
Parking area also used by campervans, accessible from the SP75 road. Basic facilities nearby. Quiet outside summer, busier in July-August.
Very large bay with generous safety margins — one of the safest spots in Sardinia. Respect the lagoon reserve boundaries to the north. Campervan and beach traffic in season. Wind can be lighter than forecast in the centre of the bay.
The bay is sheltered from the northwest by the Sulcis hills, which smooths the Maestrale compared to more exposed spots. The wind arrives cleaner and with fewer gusts than at open coast spots like Capo Mannu. It typically blows 12 to 25 knots from June to September. The Libeccio (southwest) also provides regular sessions. Wind is generally steadier in the afternoon after the thermal cycle develops.
