Le Saline is a kitesurf spot on the northwest tip of Sardinia, near Stintino and not far from the famous La Pelosa beach. The spot is exposed to the powerful Maestrale (northwest) which blows with great regularity in summer. The lagoon nearby provides flat water conditions, while more open water offers choppier riding. The landscape of salt flats, flamingos and turquoise sea makes this one of the most spectacular settings on the island.
The spot uses the narrow beach strip between the salt lagoon and the sea. Launch from the beach and ride either in the lagoon (flat, shallow, ideal for foiling) or in the open sea (more chop and power). The Stintino kite school operates here in summer with designated zones. The beach is narrow so coordinate carefully when launching and landing.
Lagoon: flat to very slightly choppy, sandy bottom at 0.3 to 1m, perfect for foiling and freestyle. Sea side: chop of 0.4 to 1m in strong Maestrale, longer fetch across the Asinara channel. The water in the lagoon hosts flamingos — maintain respectful distance from nesting areas.

Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: May to October. The Maestrale is most reliable June to September. The area is a natural park and flamingo reserve — respect access restrictions, especially during nesting periods (spring).
Parking near the Stintino salt flats, accessible from the SP34 road. Stintino village nearby with restaurants and services. Very busy in July-August — arrive early.
Strong and gusty Maestrale — beginners should exercise caution. Protected lagoon areas nearby are off-limits for kiting. Watch for boat traffic near the Stintino jetty. Shallow water near the shore in some sections.
Le Saline is positioned at the entrance of the Asinara channel, where the Maestrale is channelled between the Sardinian coast and the Asinara island national park. The wind arrives clean and powerful, typically 18 to 35 knots in summer. It builds progressively through the morning and is strongest in the early afternoon. Gusts are present but manageable. One of the most consistent Maestrale spots on the northwest coast.
