Fontanamare is a kitesurf spot on the southwest coast of Sardinia, near Gonnesa and not far from the city of Carbonia. The beach is long and sandy, backed by the history of the Sardinian mining region. The Maestrale (northwest) is the dominant wind, blowing regularly in summer with good power. The spot is relatively uncrowded and retains a wild character. The Scirocco (southeast) also blows occasionally, offering an alternative riding direction.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Free parking at the end of the road to the beach. Access from Gonnesa via local roads. No services on site — bring your own supplies. Quiet outside of summer season.
Rocky coastline to the north near the old mining harbour — avoid. The Maestrale can be very strong with sudden gusts. Watch for boat traffic. Downwind there are rocks and breakwaters — plan your exit carefully.
