Mykali Beach is a spot on Samos's south coast, facing Turkey across the Mycale Strait (the narrowest point between Samos and Turkey, ~1.5km). WARNING: the Meltemi (N/NNE) is OFFSHORE here pushing directly toward Turkey. The spot only works in southerly wind (SE to SW). The very narrow strait offers flat water but the proximity of the Turkish border demands extreme caution.
Riding only in southerly wind, mainly spring and autumn. The Mycale Strait offers extremely flat water (only 1.5km fetch). Launch from the beach. ABSOLUTE ATTENTION to the Turkish border. Spot reserved for riders knowing local conditions.
Ultra-flat water in the Mycale Strait — one of the flattest in Greece thanks to minimal fetch (1.5km). Sandy bottom. Shallow water near the beach. Ideal for freestyle when southerly wind blows.

MAIN DANGER: Meltemi pushes toward Turkey 1.5km away — involuntary crossing in minutes. INTERNATIONAL BORDER: sensitive military zone, Greek and Turkish coast guards actively patrol. NEVER ride in northerly wind. Maritime traffic in the strait. Ride only in southerly wind, with company, VHF and phone.
DANGER: the Meltemi (N/NNE) is OFFSHORE on the south coast, pushing toward Turkey only ~1.5km away. NEVER ride in Meltemi! The spot works in southerly wind: SE/SSE (side-onshore from the left), S (onshore), SSW/SW (side-onshore from the right). These winds are rare in summer but more common in spring and autumn. The very narrow strait creates flat water with no waves.
