Spot functioning

New Golden Beach works with the N/NNE Meltemi side-shore channeled between Paros and Naxos. Several professional water sports centers (windsurf, kite, wing, foil) share the beach. Dedicated zones for each activity. Side-shore wind requires upwind ability — not a pure school spot. Moderate to strong chop depending on strength. Works from June to September.

On the water

Turquoise waters of the Paros-Naxos channel, 22-26°C. 2mm shorty or lycra. Sandy bottom. Strong chop in established Meltemi — short waves in the channel. Moderate current in the channel. Water is deeper than on the Pounda side.

Parking

Parking along the coastal road at New Golden Beach. Water sports center parking for their clients. Access from Parikia or Naoussa. In high season, spaces fill up quickly.

Hazards

Very strong wind 25-30+ knots regularly. Side-shore wind pushing toward Naxos — upwind mastery essential. Strong tiring chop. Current in the channel. Dense nautical traffic (windsurf, kite, wing, boats). Strong sun and reflection.

Wind specificities

The N/NNE Meltemi is channeled in the Paros-Naxos canal (8-10km wide), creating a powerful acceleration effect. Wind arrives side-shore from the left on this east coast. Typical strength of 20-30 knots in summer, among the windiest conditions in the Cyclades. Wind is remarkably steady and laminar thanks to the channeling. Reliable season from June to September, with 80%+ windy days in July-August. One of the historic windsurfing spots worldwide.
